LAGOS NO CAR ITINERARY ↓🇵🇹🌞🏖️👟 Planning a trip t LAGOS NO CAR ITINERARY ↓🇵🇹🌞🏖️👟

Planning a trip to Lagos Portugal and wondering if you need a car? You don’t ;).

Lagos’ old town is small one-way, cobblestone, primarily pedestrian streets. It’s better not to drive inside.
The beaches are all reachable via sturdy boardwalks, there are public buses, cheap Uber & Taxis, Tuk tuks and plenty of day trip tours.

Here is how to do Lagos without a car - including routes Google-maps doesn’t know about!

🏠 Where to stay (so you don’t need a car):
- close to Lagos town walls (inside or out)
- close to Lagos Marina
- Around Dona Ana Beach

🚐 Getting here:
✈️ Fly to: FARO then
- Flix Bus from the airport to Lagos ≈8€, ≈2h30
- Public Bus to Faro then train or bus to Lagos ≈8€, ≈2h30
- Shuttle from 28€/pp, ≈1h30
From Lisbon, Bus/train (cp.pt) 3h45, ≈20€

🏖️ Getting to the beaches:
- Praia da Batata & Praia dos Estudantes, the town beaches, just 5 minutes walk from Praça do Infante
- Praia Dona Ana, ≈20 minutes walk from town. Tip: take the coastal cliff Boardwalk starting at Praia do Pinhão
- Praia do Camilo: From Dona Ana beach follow the boardwalk (starts by the car park) ≈10 mins. It’s not marked on google maps!
- Meia Praia, ≈20 minute walk from town, over the footbridge. At the Train station head right. Or in summer, take the Vai e Vem ferry from Praça Infante across the canal - a few minutes ride ≈1€
- Praia Porto de Mos: Take bus #2 from Praça do Infante, ≈20 min, 1.20€

🗓️ 1 WEEK Itinerary:
DAY 1: Beach tour. Start Batata Beach, pass through tunnel to Praia Estudantes. Start boardwalk at Praia do Pinhao → Praia Dona Ana → Praia do Camilo → Ponta da Piedade.
DAY 2: Sunrise yoga on Batata Beach. Old town, street art, fish market, eat a Pastel de Nata.
DAY 3: Kayak or small boat Grotto tour (Start point Batata beach). Massage. Nightlife.
DAY 4: Lagos Marina & Meia Praia. Eat Sardines at a beach bar.
DAY 5: Bus/Uber to Porto de Mos beach. Hike to the view point. Sunset drinks at beach bar.
DAY 6: Farmers Market, Souvineer shop, Sunset Sailing…

ALGARVE 1 WEEK ITINERARY 🇵🇹🌞🏖️ ↓ If I only had on ALGARVE 1 WEEK ITINERARY 🇵🇹🌞🏖️ ↓

If I only had one week in the Algarve, here’s what I do…

📍STAY IN: Lagos
• It’s got some of the most beautiful beaches (+ Ponta da Piedade)
• It’s big enough to have all the services, activities, restaurants & buzzing vibe you need, while still feeling like a small charming town with local Portuguese culture. 🇵🇹🐟
• You can easily do day trips to all of these places from Lagos.

🗓️ ITINERARY:

DAYS 1–3: Discover Lagos’ pristine beaches, Ponta da Piedade, the Grottos (stunning coastal caves), the old town, farmers markets and nightlife.*

DAY 4: Day trip to the West
From Lagos, stop at Burgau, Sagres, Praia do Beliche, Praia do Amado, Bordeira, Praia do Arrifana & Monte Clerigo. On the way back take the inland road (N120, a short cut) between Aljezur and Lagos

DAY 5: Benagil & around
a) Do the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail (6km) from Praia do Vale de Centianes – Alfanzina Lighthouse – Benagil – Praia da Marinha (bring a hat and water!)
b) Or shorten it: Drive to drive to Praia do Carvalho, hike to Benagil (1.5km), then to Praia da Marinha (+2.5km) (or drive).
c) Or, the easy way: Take a boat trip from Lagos Marina into Benagil cave, spotting 🐬dolphins along the way! (with @seatrips.lagos)

DAY 6: Road trip east
Start with seafood lunch in Ferragudo, then visit Algar Seco (cave & boardwalk along the cliffs), then Chapel Nossa Senhora da Rocha & Praia Nova for a great sunset.

DAY 7: Relax and enjoy Lagos, you deserve it. Have a great brunch, get a massage, relax on the beach. (tip @heatherbainmassage, @purabeaute 💅)

🚗 Rent a car?
Lagos old town and beaches are walkable so it’s not necessary for the first days - if you stay central. For day trips though, we recommend booking a car as public transport is very limited between these places. Local companies marinarentacar.com and Luzcar have great deals.

It’s officially Spring! ✨Here are 7 things we love It’s officially Spring! ✨Here are 7 things we love about Springtime in Lagos, Portugal 🌼…

It’s the simple little joys, like picking Nêsperas from the trees, hiking empty coastal trails, the bliss of feeling the sun on your skin and having the beach almost entirely to ourselves.

Plus wildflowers are everywhere, all our favourite bars and restaurants reopen, the skies are dramatic, and on a walk down the street you’ll bump into everyone you know.

If you’re planning a trip to the Algarve, Lagos in spring might be just what you’re looking for. Fewer tourists, lower prices, and a side of Portugal most people never get to see.

Want to go beyond the carousel? We’ve put together a digital guide with places we genuinely love — tucked-away beaches, local food spots, viewpoints and corners most travellers never see. (link in bio.)
