Gladly, you no longer need to wait til Saturday morning to stock up on fresh veg and locals produce at the Farmer’s market. Now, there is also the Wednesday evening “Vivo Mercado” market which focuses on local and organic products.
Its not exclusively organic, so you need to look out for hanging signs, to indicate which sellers are organic certified.

As well as fruits and vegetables, you´ll find a great range of local products including local craft beer, Algarve honey and jams, natural and zero waste soaps and creams, traditional cakes & sweets, natural tees, nuts, olives, flowers and even some hot food trucks.

This market is special not only for the organic aspect, but also for the atmosphere. There is often live music and people come not only to do their shopping, but to catch up with the community, drink a craft beer, eat a falafel and enjoy the social occasion.

The market is held in the Mercado do Levante hall, every Wednesday evening, 17 – 21 hs (5 – 9 pm) in summer, or 16 – 20hs in winter.  You find the market hall beside the Bus station, just off the main Avenida (dos Descobrimentos). About a ten minute walk along the Avenida from the town centre.
