Heading to Portugal? 🇵🇹 Save this before you go. Heading to Portugal? 🇵🇹 Save this before you go.

These are the 7 Portuguese words that’ll get you through the important things in life...

☕ Bica (BEE-kah)
Coffee (an espresso). If you prefer a long black, ask for an abatanado. More of a milky coffee person? Order a galão.

🏖️ Praia (PRAY-ah)
Beach = You’re headed in the right direction. 😉

🙏 Por favor (poor fah-VOR)
Please. A little politeness goes a long way—and the locals will appreciate it.

🍺 Cerveja (ser-VEH-zhah)
Beer. To fit in with the locals, order “uma imperial” (a small draft beer).
Prefer wine? Order a “Vinho Verde” – called green wine but its actually lightly sparkling white wine. Try it!
Ready for another? Just say “mais uma”.

👌 Muito bom (MOO-ee-toh bom)
Very good. Perfect for complimenting your meal, the sunset, or pretty much anything (and everything) in Portugal.

💛 Obrigada / Obrigado (oh-bree-GAH-dah / oh-bree-GAH-doo)
Thank you. Say Obrigada if you’re female, Obrigado if you’re male.
(It’s not dependant on who you are speaking to)

❤️ Saudade (sow-DAH-djee)
A uniquely Portuguese word for a deep feeling of longing or missing something.
It’s exactly how you’ll feel after leaving Portugal.

Now you’re ready for good times in Portugal!

Lagos Portugal has 9 gorgeous beaches, but which o Lagos Portugal has 9 gorgeous beaches, but which one is right for you? 🏖️↓

Use this as a cheat sheet and check the useful information below before you go.
Share it with whoever you’re going to Lagos with 🇵🇹🌞

🌟 useful notes:

• Iconic Cliffs: Praia de Dona Ana and Praia do Camilo* have postcard views. Parking fills quickly, so arrive early or walk the boardwalks from town (bring water, sunscreen and a hat!).

• No Stairs Required: If you aren’t up for hauling gear down cliff faces, head straight to Meia Praia or Praia Porto de Mós. Both offer ample free parking right at the sand, meaning you can practically drive right up to your sunbed or seafood lunch.

• Kayaks & Families: Praia da Batata and Praia dos Estudantes have calm water, public toilets, cafés close by and cave tunnels between the beaches. Kayak tours leave beside the fortress.

• SUP Hire to discover secret beaches: @jahshakashop rents inflatable SUPs (easy and suitable for two people) ≈€20 for 4 hours.

• Escaping the Wind: The Algarve winds can be strong. While it always depends on the wind direction, the cliff-backed coves of Praia Estudantes, Praia do Camilo and and the beach at the neighbouring village of Burgau—are often good bets.

• Swimsuit-Free Sunbaking: Want a seamless, all-over tan? Clothing-optional sunbathing is respected at the far end of Meia Praia, the far ends of Praia de Porto de Mós, and at the hidden Praia do Canavial.

• Canavial Access: You can walk from Porto de Mós at low tide—but don’t get caught by the incoming tide.

• Sunset: Most of the famous cliff beaches go into shadow early. For the longest sun exposure, head to Praia de Porto de Mós. It faces west, making it the perfect place to pack a picnic and watch the sunset from the sand, or enjoy a sundowner from the two beachfront bars.

*At the time of posting, Praia do Camilo stairway is closed, so Camilo can only be reached by kayak, SUP or boat. Hopefully reopening very soon.

Our full Algarve Guide with itineraries is dropping this week 💥 so stay tuned!

In the meantime, here is a rough plan:

🗓️ 5 day trip: base yourself in Lagos, Portugal. It has some of the world’s top beaches (white sand, turquoise water, stunning cliffs & super clean 🩵), great eateries, lots of activities, local culture, a cute cobble street white houses old town, and vibrant nightlife. Oh, and it’s all walkable.

Days 1-3, visit Lagos’ beaches, Ponta da Piedade, the gorgeous cliff top walks (on boardwalks) and the old town. Take a sailing trip along the coastline, kayak in the grottos, go dolphin watching & check out the farmers markets. (Get our free Lagos guide, link in bio)

🚗 For days 4 & 5, if you have a car:
One day drive west, beach hopping to Burgau, Salema, Sagres, Amado, carapiteira, Arrifana and Monte clerigo. Amazing natural beaches and surf vibes 🌊🏄‍♀️.
The other day drive East to fishing village Ferragudo, Praia Marinha, Carvoeiro, Benagil cave and surrounding beaches (stunning).

👟Days 4& 5 NO CAR:
Take a boat trip from Lagos Marina to Benagil cave, with dolphin spotting along the way🐬 (with @seatrips.lagos).
To see the Westcoast, join a surf day trip (beginner friendly, with @the_surfexperience). Or take a west coast jeep tour. Or, see the gorgeous countryside on a bike ride with @mountainbikeadeventure (they also have e-bikes and easy, family friendly rides).

Ah, there are so many more great options! Hit follow to not miss our new Algarve guide, landing soon.

Goodtimes Lagos… BOOK IT! ☺️💖

Lagos Portugal: Everything you need to know 2026 🇵 Lagos Portugal: Everything you need to know 2026 🇵🇹🏖️↓

If you’re planning a trip to Lagos Portugal, read the essentials below. 📌Save this for your trip.

✈️🚗 Getting to & around Lagos

Fly to Faro. From there its a ≈50 min drive, or ≈2h30, 6-8€ with bus or train. Portugal train website cp.pt
Flixbus goes directly from Faro airport, ca 2h, 6€

⚠️ If renting a car:
The A22 Highway from Faro to Lagos is now free, but you still need a Via Verde toll device in your car. Some car rental companies charge extra for this device (≈20€). Local companies like Marinacar don’t charge for it.

🚙 Do you need a car?
Lagos old town is pedestrian only, and most Lagos beaches can be accessed by boardwalks, so a car is not necessary. But if you want to see the west coast and surrounding beaches, it’s worth getting one.
- Lagos has Taxis, Uber & public buses (not so frequent)
- parking in fills up fast in summer (go by 10 am)

🔥 Top 5 things to do

• Kayak, Boat or SUP the Grottos to Ponta da Piedade
• Enjoy the breathtaking beaches
• Hike the coastal trails
• Wander the charming old town, spot the street-art
• Go dolphin spotting or sunset sailing 🥂
