Getting to Lagos Portugal
For our more in-depth guide, giving you clear directions from the point of arrival in Faro or Lisbon, to the centre of Lagos, see our post “Getting to and from Lagos Portugal”.
FARO AIRPORT ↔ FARO CENTRE
By Bus: ±2.60€, duration 15-20mins, every half an hour.
From the airport, leave the arrivals hall and behind the taxis find the bus stop. This bus will take you to the centre of Faro, leaving you outside the bus or train station. (The final stop is the bus station, 1 stop earlier is the train station).
» Search the Airport → Faro bus timetable here.
By Taxi: ± 8€, approx. 10 mins.
FARO ↔ LAGOS
By Bus: 5.85€, approx. 2hrs, serviced by eva-bus.
» Search the Faro → Lagos bus timetable here
The Lagos bus station is just off Avenida dos Descobrimentos. There is a Goodtimes map in the waiting room to help orientate yourself when you arrive, or print one here.
By Train: ±7.40€, approx. 1hr50, serviced by cp.pt.
From the Faro Bus station, follow the road, walking away from the marina. Just around the bend you will find the train station, in a typical old station building. There are about 9 trains daily. Search the Faro-Lagos train timetable here.
The Lagos train station is located behind the marina. If you are staying in the old town, you will need to walk through the marina, over the foot bridge and down Avenida dos Descobrimentos.
By shuttle: From ±15€ /person. Lagos-shuttle offer airport shuttles and can be booked on their website around 24hrs in advance. The shuttle will collect you and other guests, leaving from the airport to your accommodation. As you will be sharing the shuttle with others, you may need to wait for them, or go early in time for their flight.
By private shuttle: from 65€ for 1-6 people, approx 1 hr, also offered by www.lagos-shuttle.com
Taxi: ±90€, 50min-1hr. If you take a regular taxi from the airport, it will cost you around 90€, more at night or on public holidays.
LISBON ↔ LAGOS
By Bus: 20€, 3h45. Operated by eva-bus and rede-expressos. Eva offers a slightly nicer and faster service. Search their timetable here.
Rede Expressos has extra buses, look up their timetable here.
By Train: ±27€, ±3h40. Operated by cp.pt. There are five trains daily.

Local transport in and around Lagos Portugal
LOCAL BUSES
There are several local bus routes around Lagos, taking you to Porto da Mos beach, Praia da Luz and around the old town. They are the small Onda buses you will see driving along the Avenida. Their website is not very tourist friendly, but find a stop at the town centre, or Praça dom Henrique, and see more info at the shelter.
To get to Sagres or other neighboring towns, take an eva-bus from the main bus station. Find all the prices and timetables here.
CAR AND SCOOTER HIRE
There are several car hire companies in Lagos, all of which are based around the bus station and along Avenida dos Descubrimentos. In general the local companies are cheaper than the larger international companies. We recommend Luzcar. They rent cars from as little as 25€/day and also have scooters. You can pick one up at Faro airport, or from their shop behind the Repsol Service station (Av. Descobrimentos). They also have scooter hire. Unfortunately this is not covered on their website.
Keep in mind there is a hefty toll-fare on the A22 highway from Faro to Lagos (approx. 18€), so take the N125 if you wish to avoid this. The N125 runs fairly parallel to the highway so it doesn’t make a large difference to the travel time.
Other companies: Lagorent, Auto-jardim, Autorent.
TAXIS
The only properly serviced taxi-rank is at the town centre – Praça Gil Eanes. Its unlikely you will find one passing in the street, so its best to call one.
(+351) 282 763 587 or 917 813 107.
BIKES
You can rent bikes from JahShaka Surf Shop, or The Mountain bike Adventure.
Money
Very few places in Lagos accept payment with card, so you need to have cash handy. Most of the banks/ATMs are located around the central plaza. There is also one inside the Lagos Cultural Centre. If you need to exchange money, there is an exchange place on Praça Gil Eanes (central plaza) and a Western Union where Rua 25 de Abril (main street) divides to Rua Marques de Pompal.
Weather
The Algarve has a stable climate, with sunshine all year round. In Summer (June-Sept) the temperature is pleasant, around 28°. In Spring (April-May) and Autumn (Oct-Nov), the temperature is around 20-22°, and in Winter, the temperature is around 13-17°. For an annual weather chart, click here.
Wifi
Almost all the hostels and hotels provide free wifi. Also many of the bars, so you can check in and update your status. But if you are looking for a good cafe to spend a little time travel planning / working, we suggest: Coffee Studio Lagos, Abigail’s Cafe, Black&White Café, Bora Café (Rua Conselheiro Joaquim Machado 17) or the Cultural Centre cafe. There are also some Coworking studios.
